With a population of 1.5 million residents, only 5 people have stepped forward to stand in the elections set for 15th November 2012.
He says “I'm amazed that out of a population of 1.5 million only a 5 people have shown any interest in standing in the election.”
As it stands, only the Conservative and Labour parties have put forward any candidates. With only a week to go before nominations close, the only contenders appear to be Katy Bourne (Conservative), Godfrey Daniel (Labour), Ian Chisnall (Independent), Matt Taylor (SOS Party) and David Neilson (Independent).
Other political parties such as the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and UKIP, have not put forward any candidates.
Matt Taylor continues, “God help Sussex if this is all we've got. Lets not forget, this election marks the biggest shake up of policing in a life-time. Who-ever becomes Police and Crime Commissioner will have the mandate to do what they think is best to cut crime in Sussex. Its a massive responsibility and a role not to be taken lightly.”
“In my opinion a good Police and Crime Commissioner only needs three qualities. The three i's; Integrity, Intelligence and Independence. With only a week to go before candidates have to hand over the mandatory 100 signatures and £5000 deposit, I am appealing to all 1.5 million residents of Sussex, to look at yourselves, and ask, have I got the three i's to be Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner. Sussex needs you.”
Elections for the new post of Police and Crime Commissioner are to be held on 15th November 2012.
