Muslim Defence League "...homosexuality, we believe it is a sin"

anon | 02.11.2010 00:42 | Gender | Repression | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

The Muslim Defence League is an Islamic group of mainly Bangladeshi men. The MDL leadership is comprised of [removed] The MDL's Miss Mujahidah issued an MDL statement on homosexuality saying that they "like Christians" believe "homosexuality is a sin" and that they "have the right to believe this".

The Muslim Defence League or MDL facebook contains a number of anti Jewish comments. Most of these comments are from supporters of the MDL but there have been anti Jewish comments made by the leadership who have failed to remove anti-Semitic comments.

The homophobic comment made by one of the MDL's leadership Miss Mujahidah states that Christianity [like Islam] believes homosexuality to be a sin. The MDL have said homosexuality is a sin and that they have the right to believe this.

The MDL currently have the support of the UAF who launched a Love Music Hate Homophobia campaign.

The Muslim Defence League is based in London.

What does supporting Palestine have to do with being homosexual?

02.11.2010 01:00

Why has Miss Mujahidah [removed] written the Palestine comment on a statement about homosexuality? How does she feel about queer / gay people who support Palestine? The MDL's comment on homosexuality is similar to that made by far right groups. The anti Jewish comments are similar to that of far right groups. The MDL is looking very much like a right wing organisation and would normally be an unlikely friend to the pro gay, anti racist UAF.

[Apologies for the size of the screengrab].

Evolution

02.11.2010 10:23

In the end, the phrase 'defence league' will pass from normal use in the English language, to be replaced simply by 'nutters'.

Yes, religion is shit

02.11.2010 11:19

Most of us already know that. It certainly isn't restricted to Islam though.

And groups like the EDL aren't being enlightened fighters against bigotry for opposing Islam. They are just using it as an excuse for racism. There are many groups against Islam and other religions that aren't motivated by racism or heavily infiltrated by racists.

@theist

the point

02.11.2010 12:48

The point is that the UAF support this lot.

The UAF are of course a front for the SWP - whose Love Music Hate Racism concert starred noted anti-semite and "ex-Jew" Gilad Aztmon. Several years in a row. The SWP - a Stalinist-lite group run by a Central Committee, whose Commissar Lindsay German once described feminism and gay rights as "a shibboleth". The SWP - who successfully turned a movement protesting the USUK war in Iraq into a completely different movement whose slogans included "We are all Hezbollah".

The SWP are an authoritarian, bigoted party. They should be run out of activst politics just as they were in the 1990s. They are happy to affiliate with the extreme right as long as long it's the Muslim extreme right, and in many ways the have a symbiotic relationship with the EDL.

Everything they touch turns to crap.

missing link - can't find said posting

02.11.2010 13:20

It's all nice and well to throw us a screenshot. I've searched on the MDL Facebook page and can't find the comment in question.

So either :

1. The MDL has removed the comment (meaning it didn't reflect the point of view of MDL, just some nutter with post access) ;
2. The post never existited and someone made up a screenshot ;
3. I'm a looser and I can't search on Facebook. (In that case, please provide a link to the relevant post).

xxx Don't trust screenshots :)

If you didn't know this you need a dummy in your mouth. Total non-news as an IMC article.

Next!

The MDL's Miss Mujahidah isn't "just someone with post access." She is part of the leadership. The MDL might have removed the post as a result of the above article but they are well know for bigotry and right wing fascist views. Thye are a mirror image of the EDL. It is very true that the EDL and UAF / MDL feed off of each other.

exactly we must keep the Trots out

02.11.2010 17:10

Exactly, this is why it's vital to ensure the SWP and their fronts are NOT WELCOME on protests - it isn't hard, a simple rule can be that you can't be in the SWP and be a member of (insert protest group here). This is what the anti-roads crowd did in the 90s and it was very sucessful at keeping the Trots away - which is why the roads protests were reasonably sucessful.

Trots should be every bit as unwelcome among protesters of any kind as fascists are.

Yes, but....

02.11.2010 18:27

Everything they touch turns to crap, authoritarian, hierarchical, party builders, unprincipled opportunism gets them in contradictions like this, etc. All true...

BUT many of them are young kids swept up in the obsessive, evangelical, recruiting mill. Most won't be involved for long. The throughput of people who realise what a diversion the SWP and their fronts are from real struggles and move on, or who just find it all pointless and drop out, must be huge. Hands up all you ageing anarchs who were once teenage trots!

So suss out the trots you meet. You might as well engage with the Jehovah's Witnesses as try having a worthwhile political discussion with the trot hardcore, but many of them are far from hardcore and open to different ideas. Often, they're already beginning to question "correct line" politics.

I'm not actually saying "Love Your Local Trots" -just some them.

simple solution

02.11.2010 19:04

Well, if they want to join real protest groups then they can always leave the party. Simples.
