no deal with racists

I personally would not share a protest with a known member of the BNP or EDL.

Human and animal rights go hand in hand, we're fighting for equal rights. It's one struggle and one fight. One who attempts to diminish the rights of some via support for the BNP or EDL cannot fight for the total liberation of all animals human & non human. They are a hypocrite of the highest order.

troll scum piss off

27.10.2009 19:12

For a start london ar is not all white and shac work closely with countries across the world so stop talking shit. Where is this meeting then? I would agree that ar is too white but so if antifa, class war, the enviro's ect. Yes a few drifters have done some ar then a few years down the line turned into fascists and I think you will find they are lonley nutters after a cause not ar activists.

Anyway where is this meeting?

We do not accept racists

27.10.2009 19:19

Your information is inaccurate, SHAC does not have any contact with the people you mention on the blog. They were outed ages ago, and anyone who knows anything about animal rights knows that these lot have been cast out in the cold. Nobody I know would ever share a demo with a known racist or BNP member. It really is as simple as that.

My conclusions draw that the blog owner is either misinformed, or deliberately trying to cause trouble and smear people. One of the those. I hope it is the first one.

much respect

27.10.2009 19:20

a recent post on this newswire, claiming that AR activists were the first to be subjected to police surveillance, has caused a bit of a debate.

In that discussion one of the posters suggested that if animal rights activists would like to be more successful with their politics they would be wise to seek to build solidarity with other struggles. In particular the suggestion was to seek an animal rights argument for supporting the postal strike (!)

i think it's interesting that just a few hours a perfect example of this should be on the same news wire.

Fascism is a form of domination, which developed out of capitalisms need to respond to changing economic and political realities that threatened its stability. Capitalism is the system which drives the factory farms, the destruction of the worlds habitats, and the pollution and disruption of the global ecological systems - threatening all life on this planet.

It would be pretty embarrassing to have a plain common or garden racist as part of your animal rights movement. Much as having any other type of sociopath. Active members of fascist organisations are one step further though as their ideology developed for the purpose of protecting the political system which is the greatest threat to animal life (human or otherwise) around the world.

Good luck with your purge comrades!

Agree

27.10.2009 19:22

antifa ar's post sums it up rather nicely.

The poster of the article is most likely trying to cause trouble, and probably has very little experience of the movement at all.

I have just read the website

27.10.2009 19:31

I agree absolutely that fascism is the antithesis of animal liberation. That is why fascists are not tolerated in the animal rights movement, nor should they be. Some animal rights activists are also active in fighting fascists. This site simply stirs shit indicating that fascism is a major problem in the AR movement. No there may not be many non white people in AR but remember fascists hate gay people and there are many gay people who fight animal abuse. Charlotte Lewis and Matthew Gibbons and the other one would not be welcome on any animal rights demo or event. Recently an Islamaphobe was turned away from an AR meeting. To recognise equality for all within our own species is the first step in recognising that all of us regardless of colour, sexual orientation, gender or species all feel pain and have the right to live without being abused by others.
I did not see many non white people at Climate Camp, so what? Maybe, just maybe people who are not idigenous and white have racism, inequality and other shit to deal with which hinders them from getting involved with other important issues. Anyone regardless of religion, race, nationality or sexuality would be most welcome on any animal rights action.

This Issue Has Already Been Dealt With

European groups developed a "hallmark" system to ensure that associated groups (who could be hundreds, or even thousands, of miles away shared the same core philosophy of opposing all forms of domination:--

 http://www.al-hallmarks.net/

It is far better thought out and provides the core values of the animal liberation movement. Fascist infiltration of AR is well known, and common place in Germany, but the blog in this article seems more like a smear than anything credible.

Want to resist scum from joining your group, subscribe to the ALH charter...which was originally presented at the internation ar gathering in Sweden in 2008!

on  http://www.al-hallmarks.net/ there's a serious lack of U.K groups on there, not one in fact. Hopefully that should change after these posts.

CONFIRMED SMEAR CAMPAIGN

27.10.2009 21:40

You only need to go to that *special* anti-shac website and see the second comment to the latest post from 'Keep Fascism Out of Animal Rights' calling SHAC 'greedy fuckers', ironically for wanting their right to protest at Novartis HQ on the 31st.

So there you have it, this person is not wanting to keep fascists out of AR at all, if anything they would benefit from their involvement to further falsely smear the movement as fascist. They in reality would like to keep animal liberation out of any other movement.

Given that the meeting is indefinitely a hoax, should this now be hidden?

On the note of the topic though, if only three known fascists have gone undetected in the movement over the last 8 years it's not a bad track record for keeping the fuckers out. I imagine that the enviomental and anti-war movements have collected more fascists than AR.

Highlighting the interconnection of oppressions

27.10.2009 22:03

Yes, the original comment doesn't seem to say much of interest - most AR activists would take it as a given that racists/fascists aren't welcome in their groups, and the couple of examples given are hardly representative.

However, I think AR groups could be more explicit about their support for other movements, in communiques, theory and on other actions e.g. antifascist (while being careful not to be seen as trying to hijack other demos just to promote our AR message). We need to find a balance, highlighting the interconnection of oppressions without becoming too subcultural and closed to people who aren't yet straight edge anarchist antifa etc etc.

Fascism + anything = fascism

27.10.2009 22:43

Everyone has a range of opinions on every subject that mix together to form our own personal cocktail, often unpalatable to others sense of taste. Adding fascism to any cocktail though is like shitting in the glass, whatever you add it to instantly becomes sewage.

Inspiral Lounge is in Camden...

27.10.2009 22:48

this is a troll and I think it should be removed.

Inspiral Lounge is in Camden, and there are well-known people with "issues" from Camden that often post nonsense here under different pseudonyms. If it was a real meeting, it would explain exactly where the Inspiral Lounge was (maybe there are several of them in the country?)

Also, the blogger's profile links to the scum anti-AR site Shacwatch and another nutty sock-puppet blog called animalrightsinfiltrators.

My experience of animal rights has been you get the occasional racist just as in any movement but they are always made to feel very unwelcome once their views become apparent.
