Support peace activist Milan Rai in Lewes prison!

patrick | 18.11.2005 11:22 | Anti-militarism | South Coast

This is an update of an earlier posting giving more details about Milan Rai's imprisonment and how you can support him.

Milan Rai of Justice Not Vengeance ( http://www.j-n-v.org/) was sentenced to 28 days on Thursday for non-payment of a compensation order to the Foriegn Office. This arose from his action in November 2004 protesting UK involvement in the assault on Fallujah.

Apologies for some lack of clarity in an earlier posting( http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/11/327956.html) regarding where Milan was being held. It is now confirmed that he is in Lewes Prison. He will probably be held until November 29th. Mil would appreciate letters, and you can send these to:

Even an address can be a protest

Since the Royal Mail is obliged to deliver letters if it knows the intended address, may I suggest that
"HMP Lewis"

be modified or added to to express exactly how you feel about such facilities being used to further the cause of Blair and the New Reich.

If you crawl on your belly (think about what HMP means) you will get the respect deserved as such.

The people working at "Lewis" are no more ordinary workers now than the people who staffed Hitler's death camps. The moment Mr. Rai entered their facility, each and every one of them had the ability to resign, or refuse to process him. The doctor(s) and nurses that examine him there should be immediately "struck off".

Normal people empower Blair, just as normal people empowered Hitler. These monsters are nothing without the "sheep" that do their bidding, always under some pathetic excuse or other.

So, the staff didn't resign, or refuse to process. Their choice. The least that letter writers can do is express their disgust visible on the outer part of the letter. Remember all those "velvet revolutions" ??? Guess what- they all consisted of such acts- forcing people to come face to face with the consequences of their daily choices and actions. How the hell do you think "people power" really works?

So be creative- express YOUR thoughts on the envelope, or in the way you describe Blair's detention facility for holding those that obey the ruling of the Human Rights Courts of WW2, and do everything they can to act against the genocidal acts of Blair, and his New Reich party. Let each and every person who HANDLES your envelope understand the full force of your disgust at what has happened to Mr Rai.

And another thing...

Don't forget the stamp.

Not a number

Actually, although I am in favour of writing Lewes Prison, not HMP Lewes (sod her majesty and her lock-ups) I wouldn't go further than that with the outside of the envelope, because it is not the postal workers you have to get past, it is the screws, and the aim is to get letters to Milan, not tell the prison what you think of it - if you want to do that write to the governor or the Home Office or the press.

Indeed, at the risk of getting shot by a pacifist, if Milan's friends know his prison number, I suggest they post it too and that people put in on the envelope.

The point of writing to prisoners is to write to them, and for the letters to arrive. If your letter is stopped, you protest, and complain and protest some more, especially if they censor the content, but come on people, don't give them stupid excuses just to bin your mail. Thinking the revolution lies in defacing envelopes is just ridiculous.
