Nahr al-Bared Camp (Lebanon): 2 Short Films

The anarchist video collective "a-films" announces the release of two short films dealing with the situation of the Palestinian refugees who where forced out of the meanwhile totally destroyed Nahr al-Bared Refugee Camp in North Lebanon. After the fighting between the Lebanese army and Fatah al-Islam fighters had ended, the refugees still weren't allowed to return to the ruins of the camp, while the Lebanese army as well as civilians looted what was left of Nahr al-Bared.

"Tragedy Without Borders" was produced by refugees from the destroyed Nahr al-Bared Camp during a video-workshop in Beddawi Refugee Camp near Trablous, North Lebanon. For two weeks, a-films trained a group of refugees in filmmaking.
The 20-minutes film focusses on the hard conditions that Nahr al-Bared refugees are facing in their temporary exile in Beddawi Camp. Many of them experience a Ramadan of hardship and sadness. Living since four months in overcrowded schools, mosques and in overpriced flats garages, they tell about their daily life and their memories of their destroyed refugee camp. The refugees explain their perceptions of their future and their hopes of returning to the ruins of Nahr al-Bared.

"Homeless in Shatila" is a short video on refugees from the destroyed refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared who stranded in Shatila Camp, Beirut. While Beddawi Camp is hosting the majority of those who fled, thousands of people are scattered all over other Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.

"Tragedy Without Borders" can be watched here (part 1) and here (part 2) on youtube. The film in full quality can here be downloaded.

"Homeless in Shatila" can be watched on youtube and is also in full quality online available for download.

Please check the collective's website for further videos from Lebanon and Palestine. German, Spanish, Italian and French versions of the films are also available on the a-films-blog.
