Anarchists equipped with gas masks wooden poles and Molotovs clashed with police in central Athens.

Greece - Anarchists, students and unionists clashed with police in central Athens today, shutting down part of the city for a number of hours. Demonstrators fought police with clubs and pelted them with molotov cocktails and rocks. Police fired teargas at protesters. Similar demonstrations were held across the country in opposition to the government's plan to amend Greece's constitution in order to allow private companies to open universities. Currently all institutions of higher learning are state funded and don't charge tuition.

1. There is no chats categories as «anarchists and students». Students has also political identities. So is either political categories or social.

2. The real news are that we made e demonstration of more than 30.000 students. Only Greek media and some Greek anarchists focus only on the few clashes.

3. There was no riot.

4. Clashes was participated only by few people.

I am not against clashes or anarchists. But this post is misinformation. Concerns only e small part of what rely happened. You see not even one photo of the demonstration.

To have a more accurate picture of what happened see more photos here:

There's already a post on UK indymedia on the actual bulk of the protest.

No need to repost. To highlight the clashes is key as there is a high level of provocation (by the govt and police force) and misinformation (by the media) in Greece and the issue of a hands on approach must be discussed. Greek anarchists use molotovs and the bases from their flags to attack the riot police. This is a symbolic action to demonstrate to the police scum and govt that there are ppl out there that will not allow their crimes to go unpunished. Whether it's their assistance to foreign occupations and wars or the brutalities against immigrants or the dictatorial measures of passing new bills without the support of the ppl and with no interest in listening to the ppl these crimes have gone unpunished and even though there are only a few who pick up the petrol bomb now, with time people will see through capitalisms real face and realise that capitalism cannot be modified, and that in order to achieve freedom we must crush those who have imprisoned us, our fellow human beings in other countries, our minds, and our ideas.
