Tim Waterstone | 12.07.2006 13:12 | Anti-racism | Migration

Young family abducted in Glasgow this morning are en route to England and deportation.

A Kurdish man, Servet Temel, his partner Sakine Temel, and their 3 young sons Hozan, Cekdar and Rodi were taken from their Kennishead (Glasgow) flat in the early hours of this Wednesday morning (12th July).

No Borders Glasgow are calling for a protest outside the gates of Brand Street Reporting Centre this afternoon (till 6pm). Please make your way there as soon as possible to express your outrage at the treatment of this young family.

No Dawn Raids. No deportations.

The old poll-tax protests used to have phone-chains for packing out peoples homes that the bailliffs were going to, and volunteers doing counter-surveillance on bailliffs 24x7. At it's height it was a proto flash-mob, entire streets were often blocked within minutes. I'm not offering that as advice as I don't know your tactics or resources. It worked pretty well as a tactic then, less so as a strategy. It's quiite a satisfying and easy action and so it quickly gains numbers and publicity, locals join in just to see whats going on. Changing the law to stop is your priority but not getting deported is the refugees main concern and someone should be catering to that to especially where deportees face death on return.

Lots of us are entitled to a free council house even though we don't need or want to live in one for whatever reason. Those of us who are should apply for one anyway and then donate them to whatever campaign can offer them as safe-houses to avoid raids. I'll apply for one myself tommorow for that purpose, away from Glasgow. If anyone wants it and can use it when I finally get it then say here and I'll get in contact.

Danny
