Defend benefits for asylum seekers
Dear campaigner,
Here's a simple action you can take to support our campaign against destitution right now:
http://www.sky.com/skynews/polls/displayresults/0,,30100-1003322,00.html
This poll is currently running strongly against allowing any benefits for failed asylum seekers please make your voice heard and act today.
Today the Refugee Council has issued a report giving our concerns about the operation of section 9 of the 2004 Act which has been piloted in three areas with the effect of sending most of the families affected into hiding and making them destitute.
The issues have been covered on most major broadcasting outlets and in the Guardian, Mirror and Mail today as well as regional media in Yorkshire.
Read our press statement:

You can download our report on our website now:

Thanks for your continued support - more actions follow this spring to help asylum seekers facing destitution.

I just tried to vote (via this link) and was told "you have already voted". I hadn't. Anyone else had this?

I have now voted twice (that's democracy folks!) but from different IP addresses. So if you got a message you'd already voted it would be because (if you're dial up) another voter had that address before, during the period of the vote.
So....we're making a difference. Just let more people know about it.

36.63% (75,339 votes) thought that refused asylum seekers should loose their benefits.
63.36% (130,290 votes) thought that refused asylum seekers should keep their benefits.
A record high of 205,629 votes were counted. However, this poll is not listed on the "previous polls" page of skynews:
http://www.sky.com/skynews/polls/archivelist/1,,91153-0,00.html
But then, the listed polls are a weird selection - dates of polling go far into the future, up to 2009.
This was a funny little action, not more. It looks like both camps used some electronic tools to boost their percentages. Never trust statistics!
