Edinburgh Prisoner Solidarity Demonstration 8th July

Jason | 07.07.2005 14:29 | G8 2005 | Repression | Social Struggles

A meeting today, 7th July, has called for a solidarity demonstration outside Saughton Prison Edinburgh from 1530 untill 1630 on the 8th July

To show solidarity with, and support for, all of the people arrested during the events in Scotland in recent days, a call is being made for a peaceful demonstration outside Saughton Prison in Edinburgh.

The prison is at 33 Stenhouse Road, Edinburgh. The demonstration is meeting in the car park of the Saughton Prison, and will be from 1530 untill 1630 on the 8th July,

Bring noise making gear, we want the prisoners to be able hear us from inside.

Getting there:
Located in the West Side of Edinburgh on the main A71, the prison is in an area known locally as Saughton. The prison is situated in a predominately residential area and has good transport and road links to the city centre, which provides good access both for local courts and visitors to the prison.

By Bus

Lothian Buses (coloured red & white or maroon) Nos. 3, 3A, 25 and 33 from Princes Street via Haymarket or No. 30 from Princes Street via West Approach Road pass the entrance to the Prison.

First buses (coloured magenta) Nos. 27 and 28 also link Princes Street and the Prison.

By Train

Currently all train services to Edinburgh run through Haymarket and Waverly Stations, Haymarket being closest to the prison. The above noted buses would then provide the link to the prison.

Morning solidarity for prisoners in court tomorrow

07.07.2005 19:51

at least 10 male prisoners on remand, who are in edinburgh prison at the moment, are going to be brought to the sheriffs court on thursday morning. they would very much appreciate direct noisy support when they will be driven inside the building - they will have to spend the time waiting for their trial separated from each other, without daylight, maybe for hours, without communication.

the sheriffs court is in chambers street close to the forrest cafe, the entrance for prisoners is the down one (where people got released during the last days). be there from 8.15am on. trials start at 10am.
