We are now preparing our next film to be recorded during the G8 protests based on:
’G8 media distortion and the erosion of our civil liberties’
The idea of this film is to monitor what the mainstream media is saying, and hiding, about G8 protests and protesters, then compare it with what do we see ourselves through our cameras and from personal testimonies of people that we meet.
Camcorder Guerillas makes films in Glasgow, Scotland on issues that affect our local communities. We are a collective of individuals that offer our time in a voluntary basis to give a voice to those who we consider silenced or misrepresented by the mainstream media.
So far we have made the following films:
Dear Mrs Blair
A letter from mother to mother from Rose Gentle, the mother of Gordon Gentle, a young person from Glasgow who was recruited at a job centre and who with less than 6 months training was sent to Iraq and killed.
Welcome
A film about how local authorities are making refugees homeless and destitute by evicting them from their flats and stopping their benefits, and how they cannot be sent back to their countries because they face torture and murder.
Breach of The Peace
A film coverage of Faslane Trident Nuclear Base blockade by peaceful protesters and the ironic fact that the charge against them, when arrested for opposing weapons of mass destruction, is called ‘Breach of the peace’. There has been over 1,000 arrests of non-violent protesters in Faslane in the last two year.
JNF Protest
a film coverage of a protest organised by Palestinian solidarity groups in Glasgow at a fundraising event in Glasgow by the Jewish National Fund, a charity that buys land in Palestine and then excludes non-Jews from living or buying property in it.
Glasgow Mayday 2004
A Film coverage of this protest and celebration and the reasons behind why people take over the streets that day.
Coming soon…
Dungavel
This film is based on the Dungavel refugee detention centre, and how children and adults are imprisoned there without a trial. (Will be screened in September).
All these are local issues that affect our communities in Glasgow and Scotland, next week we will be filming the G8 protests for our new film.
If you are interested in helping us with our new film and have relevant MiniDV video footage, photographs or media clippings get in touch with us through our web page, we will be collecting relevant material after the G8 is over.
