asdf | 01.06.2005 23:15 | G8 2005 | Analysis | Globalisation | Social Struggles | World

Free workshop space available in central Edinburgh during the G8 Summit! Book your workshops now!

Dear Friend,

The Dissent! Network has managed to secure an
amazing(and free) space in Central Edinburgh from June
30th to July 8th thanks to the Edinburgh University
Student Union.

We are writing to ask individuals, groups,
movements and campaigns to send us proposals for
workshops, seminars, debates, meetings, practical
skill-sharing, exhibitions, films and cultural
activities.

This space is an opportunity to introduce ourselves
and our political positions; network and strengthen
our links; share our skills, discuss our strategies
and get our ideas, practices and alternatives across
to a large public, through horizontal, open and
participatory exchange. Also, it will be a place where
people can prepare for the summit as well as debrief
afterwards.

Proposed themes include:

- How Do We Really 'Make Poverty History'? Challenging
Global Power Structures
- Taking Back Control of Our Lives: Building
- Alternatives in the here and now
- Acting for Environmental Justice
- Migration: Freedom of Movement Against Freedom of
Capital

Unfortunately, there's a catch:
We need your proposals by Saturday the 4th of June!
Even if it's just a preliminary outline (title, short
description, estimated number of
participants,contact), get in touch at
 programme_collective@yahoo.co.uk

The film space (open from 6 to 10 pm every day) can be
booked at the above address too (name of film, length
and format are required info)

To join the programme collective, please send an email
to the above address.

Please Circulate Widely!

See you in Edinburgh!

CLARIFICATION: PLEASE READ THIS

PLEASE READ THIS:

There are several spaces in Edinburgh University facilities that are being used by SEVERAL GROUPS around the G8.

This also includes G8Alternatives and others, not just Dissent Network.

BUT the Dissent network people are organising events IN THE SPACES THEY HAVE.

The call above is related to these spaces and not the other rooms / spaces that other groups are organising.

Updated contacts

02.06.2005 12:18

There are several spaces.

Contacts for what's going on in them are with the groups who will be participating in them - so that's groups from G8Alternatives, People and Planet, Dissent network etc etc etc

Note there is no accomodation at these spaces.

Comment by 'Moon' hidden

Hi - a comment by 'Moon' has been hidden.

It contained contact information for part of the university. Groups themselves (not dissent by the way) who are organising in university venues and the university contact listed, have asked that the contact information be hidden. It has thus been hidden.

Dissent are only "in charge" of the events they have organised, and of spaces they have booked etc. If you're unhappy with the way they are organising there events, why not organise something of your own?

...

Moon, or whatever

Its either a disgruntled G8 Alternatives person, or its old bill trying to waste peoples time. Don't worry about it.
