informal meeting of alter-globalists, edinburgh, tomorrow

paul | 03.02.2004 02:39

first meeting of anti-capitalist collective dissent!edinburgh wednesday evening from 5.30pm at forest cafe [ www.theforest.org.uk ]

all welcome

with rumours that the g8 summit is coming to scotland, some edinburgh based anti-capitalists and alter-globalists have come together to discuss how we greet the backbone of global exploitation.

this will be an informal meeting to discuss basic matters, + anything relevent.

we will be gathering at forest from around half five, but don't worry if you can't make it on time. we will hopefully be sitting at a table, with the EU flag (celebrating fortress europe) on display prominently either way. don't be shy!

if you can't make the meeting but would be interested in our activities please get in touch:

through the dissent!edinburgh working group list at  http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/dissentedinburgh

or if you just want to keep in touch with our activities we will be operating an announcements list, more info at
 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dissentedinburgh-announcements/

or just drop us a line at the email address below...

cheers

paul

all wellcome???

Perhaps the poster of this notice means all who are supportive of group are wellcome, I don't want to come to a meeting just to argue with those not on board with organising to disrupt the g8 summit. Or talk to cops and journos.

I am up for meeting with like mind people who are committed to long lead to g8 summit, building up a moblisation which mean the g8 leaders will not dare come to Scotland, with some good events on the way.

But I don't want to piss about arguing if this is a good thing or not.

fair enough

i wasn't clear. this meeting is for a group which operates by the hallmarks of the pga:

1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all trade agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive globalisation.

2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious fundamentalism of all creeds.
We embrace the full dignity of all human beings.

3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that lobbying can have a major impact in such biased and undemocratic organisations, in which transnational capital is the only real policy-maker;

4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social movements' struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize respect for life and oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the construction of local alternatives to global capitalism.

5. An organisational philosophy based on decentralisation and autonomy.

if that ain't something you can live with, don't come along!
