From Ecuador to Edinburgh: An evening of stories of resistance.

fwd | 16.09.2003 18:27 | Ecology | Globalisation

7.30pm Wednesday 24th September, New Dalry House, 15 Orwell Place, Edinburgh

This event is an excellent opportunity to meet two Ecuadorian activists who will be talking about the effects of oil exploitation there. Jose Luis Guevara, and Fidel Aguinda will be speaking about the struggle their communities have faced as a result of an attempt to double Ecuador's oil production in order to service the country's external debts. There will also be some wine and some Ecuadorian snacks (in return for a small donation).

The event is hosted by SEAD (Scottish Education and Action for Development), and also provides a chance to meet the SEAD team, and to hear about what SEAD's Mutual Solidarity Programme has to offer Scotland.

To get to Orwell Place, go up Dalry Road, and turn left at the cafe Sugo.

Jose Luis Guevara, and Fidel Aguinda have come over to Scotland to meet with community groups here, and to participate in the Friends of the Earth Scotland conference, "A roch wind blauwin'? Reflections and directions on the path to environmental justice" . This conference will take place at Leith Academy , Edinburgh on Saturday 27th September. For more information, contact Sarah de Mowbray on 0131 554 9977.
