Request from Munlochy Vigil:
On 11th September, the Agriculture Committee of the European Parliament is
meeting to discuss GM coexistence and liability. In part of this discussion the topic of GM contamination thresholds for Organic agriculture will be raised.
At present, under EU law, GMOs are totally prohibited from organic produce and this position must be maintained. It is important therefore to lobby the Committee to this end.
Please e-mail the secretariat, and request that your views are circulated to the Committee.
Public pressure is vital here, so please encourage as many others as possible to do the same.
We are not specifically representing the organic movement here, but as the law presently stands, organic foods will be the only foods available that will be 100% free of GM.
To contact the secretariat:
e-mail Mrs Valerie Vende: vvende@europarl.eu.int
or Mr Gerhard Kalb: gkalb@europarl.eu.int
You could also take this opportunity to make the Committee aware of your views on:
1. Seed purity: request a 0.1% threshold level as in operation in Austria
2. Gene flow: your views on cross-pollination, and the possibility of co-existence between GM and other forms of agriculture
3. Liability: strict liability must be in place before any commercial growing of GM crops in Europe

October 1st: Jonny Barton, is living and working on an organic farm in Nairnshire. He will be cycling from Inverness on 1st October to London - for a national Rally on the 13th - and will be pulling a coffin behind him. This is a symbol of the seriousness of the Genetically Modified farming - the death of organic farming, and the death of the democratic right to choose safe food, death of more British biodiversity, the risk of environmental biohazards, the risk of public health hazards from eating GM foods. He needs money to help with equipment, standby accommodation, repairs etc.
InfoNet invites persons willing to sponsor Jonny to contact him directly on 01667 454554.

Hutton Enquiry: Now we have seen how New Labour lied, cheated and murdered in their cynical crusade alongside Bush. Instead of every demand being made of the Security Services to check and double-check their information, Blair and his gang twisted and manipulated the 'facts' to fit their rotten agenda.
