Time of Edinburgh sat anti war march
29.03.2003 03:57
I guess the stwc web site should be used as main source for this demo
http://www.edinburghstw.org.uk/
as they are main promoters of it.
The police conceeded an understanding for sat demo to go ahead only later in week, after demo first called, according to reports in mainstream press.

We deplore the statements by Lothian and Borders Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Dickson that he “can not guarantee public safety because official permission had not been sought” for the anti-war demonstration on Saturday. He criticizes what he calls an “unauthorised protest” and appeals to young people, as well as the parents of small children not to attend this anti-war demonstration. This is a thinly-veiled political intervention by the Assistant Chief Constable.
We are, let us remind ourselves, protesting against a government Tam Dalyell MP, the Father of the House of Commons, says is led by a “war criminal”. The question, in this context, of whether an relatively junior official at the City Chambers has “authorised” the demonstration is of minimal concern, especially given that Edinburgh City Council also voted some weeks ago against an invasion that violated international law. It is, however, a matter of record that a communication was sent to the relevant office at the City Chambers last Monday, outlining the march proposals. Assistant Chief Constable Dickson should withdraw his remarks.
Edinburgh Stop the War Coalition reiterates its consistent position that we are a campaign committed to mass peaceful demonstrations and, at the appropriate times, non-violent civil disobedience to oppose a crime being committed by the British government.
We appeal to all those opposed to the war, young and old, to boost the numbers protesting this Saturday at 2.00pm near the US Consulate. We intend to demonstrate massively our opposition to this American-British invasion of a sovereign member of the UN.
Please come early if you can to hand out leaflets in the city centre (Waterloo Place - junction with Princes St - from 11am)
2. LEITH & EDINBURGH NORTH STOP THE WAR COALITION
Lobby of Malcolm Chisholm MSP, Minster of Health to get him to live up to his public declaration against the war, and to withdraw from his membership of the Scottish 'War Cabinet' 8.30am Leith Public Library, Ferry Road. The surgery begins at 9.00am
3. CALL FOR A MASS BLOCKADE OF GRANGEMOUTH OIL TERMINAL - SAT APR 5TH 12.00 NOON
Bush and Blair's ever-changing justifications for this war hide the fact that drive to war is massively motivated by the US goal of dominating as much as possible of the world's oil resources. Bush himself is in the pocket of the major US oil giants, who are just aching to get their hands on Iraq's vast oil reserves.
Edinburgh and Falkirk Stop the War Coalitions therefore call for Scottish-wide support for a mass blockade of the Grangemouth oil refinery to protest against this murderous war for Iraq's oil. Why should the oil companies make massive profits from the illegal invasion of Iraq? TRANSPORT: Train to Polmont station on main Glasgow-Edinburgh railway line 25 minutes from either city.
4. UK National demonstration April 12th Central London 12.00 noon Buses leave Waterloo Place 11.00pm (£20 & £10) Call 0795- 800-2591 to book seats. Same number if you need assistance to raise the money.
5. Edinburgh anti-war teach-in: Sunday March 30th , Theatre Workshop 34 hamilton Place, Stockbridge 10.30am to 5.00pm
Speakers: Anthony Arnove, "What are America's War Aims?"
Films: Not in My Name / Hidden wars of Desert Storm / Frontiers of Dreams and Fears / & others

Info for Dundee bus to the Edinburgh demo
29.03.2003 10:10
I reckon it'll be quite busy, and I doubt there will be enough seats on the bus for the amount of people who are going to show up, so I get it'll be a case of first come first serve?
