Anti-war protesters attack British Army buildings in Glasgow.

Anti-war protesters carried out an attack on British Army buildings in Glasgow last night, Sunday, at a time of their choosing. Windows were smashed and missiles were hurled in the attack on a training buildings of the Royal Signals Regiment, Jardine St, Maryhill, Glasgow.

The protesters vowed to step up the attacks and widen the scope of legitimate targets in protest against the slaughter of innocent Iraqi civilians. Legitimate targets inculde army, police and other government buildings. They issued a call for others to organise themselves into small groups and act.

This is blatantly not peace protesting. Working for peace is about communicating a message. This sort of action is completely futile as a means of communication. Violence and destruction causes people to close up and become defensive and makes it impossible for them to listen to our message. Is that not the point we are making in opposing this war? The message that this action sends is that violence is a constructive way to tackle problems. Peace radiates from the heart and will be achieved through compassion towards all people including the perpetrators of violence.
