Scotland Says Stop the Killing

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Scotland, joining the millions across Britain and throughout the world. In acts of peaceful civil disobedience they blocked streets and protested. In Glasgow there were school students strikes and walkouts, demonstrators filled George Sq, blocked streets and blocked the motorway. In Edinburgh, in the 4th consecutive day of strikes and protests thousands marched from Edinburgh Castle to block Princes Street, bringing the city centre to a halt for an anti-war rally. And in towns across Scotland from Shetland to Dumbarton people took to the streets to say no.

Looting during demonstrations

22.03.2003 23:30

I'm disgusted to hear that demonstrators were looting in Edinburgh. This only discredits the movement: it allows passers-by to dismiss the protesters as a bunch of hooligans and gives the pro-war lobby valuable amunition in their propaganda campaign. To anyone who has done this or is contemplating it, I say GROW UP!.

Dissolve Capitalist Social Relations

23.03.2003 01:14

'Looting' or as Grogs prefers 'raiding' is good vibrant mass direct action .

Now the bombs are dropping the time for calm lobbying is over.

We need to put the pressure on and bring the troops come by creating a second front here.

I am glad the youth did not follow the leadership of the march to be hemed into some square but dashed to occupy Princes Street and took action to dissolve the consummer side of capitalist social relations by taking stuff with a use value but removing it's exchange value. Thay had allready attacked the other side of capitalist social relations when they striked from school where they are developed into alienated wage slaves; their tasks divorced from their desires.

The goods in the shops were created by our collective labour and are being sold back to us. It is good to see this process being refused.

Only our collective refusal of capitalist social relations can end the barbarism of capitalism.

These experiments allow the movement to GROW UP.

These enlighten youth will lead the way.

I was angry and depress on Monday and was uplifted to here how they stormed Edinburgh Castle, it was a joy to see and hear the youth when I joined the protests on my lunch break from my work on Wednesday and Thursday.

Behold a bright future.

Looting

Theft is wrong whichever way you look at it - looters take property they have no rights to. Would you be happy to have your home looted? "The goods in the shops were created by our collective labour and are being sold back to us. It is good to see this process being refused." Yes the goods were created by collective labour then sold back but there is paytment for that labour, and I know in many cases this is not equal to the value of the goods but stealing is not the answer.

from disorder comes chaos - what would your anarchic state be like, one where individuals are free to live in peace or where we would live in fear. Live in the real world - the price of progress is capitalism.

The price of progress is capitalism...? History shows many advanced societies and civilizations have existed outside of the capitalist mode....this whole notion that the only route to progress and freedom is through capitalism is utter bullshit. Oh yes, I forgot to anticipate that our modern society is so much better and 'whole' or complete compared to social organizations and hierarchies of the past...pull your head out of your ass, and quit being so 'now-absorbed'; that modern capitalist democracies are the be all and end all of possibilities is nonsense.
