Anti-War Occupation at Glasgow Uni

Glasgow Anarchist Students | 17.12.2002 19:38 | Anti-militarism | Education

Glasgow Anarchist Students have today occupied the main lecture hall of the Adam Smith Building at Glasgow University. They are protesting against the war, and demanding that the University cuts all ties with the armed forces and the arms industry

The students are calling for the Army to be booted off campus. The Army have been active in recruitment on campus recently, sparking pickets and demonstrations. It's time for them to go.

They are also calling for the removal of the University’s Chancellor, who sits on the Universities' pension fund, which invests millions in war-profiteering companies such as BAe. Get rid of him, and get rid of the companies. Invest in ethical companies, if you can find any.

The students moved in at about 1 pm and secured the doors. There are posters up on the windows of the 4th floor lecture hall, and red & black flags decorating the place. Security will let no one in, and say that anyone leaving will not be allowed to return.

Also, it emerged today that the Uni plans to shut down the Slavonic and Philosophy departments, as they aren't bringing in enough cash. A joint protest has been called for tomorrow at 11:00am outside the Adam Smith Building, in solidarity with the anarchists inside and against the money-grabbing university bosses.

The Adam Smith Building is off University Ave, near the QM Union. If you are in Glasgow, get along to Glasgow University at 11:00am tomorrow and give those inside a bit of support.

No war but the class war!
