In the second day of student-led protests in Oxford against the public sector cuts and rises in University fees, a group from the Join Protest Group Oxford, largely led by sixth-formers from Cheney School occupied the offices of Oxfordshire County Council. Read more >>

On 24th November, as part of the first National Day of Action Against Fees and Cuts, the Radcliffe Camera, a central library of Oxford University, was stormed and occupied by around 200 people. The building was occupied for 28 hours until being raided and evicted by police. The occupation involved students from Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University, Ruskin, and many other educational institutions in Oxford. The intention of the occupation was to open the university library as a resource for the entire community. However, police and security colluded to deny access to anyone who attempted to enter. Below is a text begun within the Radcliffe Camera and completed after eviction. Well, when we occupied the Radcliffe Camera library we did our best to get it open for all Oxford residents, not just privileged students. But Oxford University decided it would rather have it open to nobody. Just goes to show that if you want education that's free, accessible and progressive you have to DO IT YOURSELF. Read more >>

Two Oxford campaign groups did a 'chicken flashmob' at the Liberal Democrat Constitiuency Offices todayat 1pm. They protested against cuts to universities and other public services. The 50 protesters dressed as chickens, claiming that both Nick Clegg and Vince Cable, the country's top two Liberal Democrats, pulled out of visits to Oxford because they do not want to face protests.
