The problem of consensuses and use of video as an outreach tool in the ESF

ESF meeting that kicked it all off
The is a problem with videoing in the alternative as the is always a small number of "conspiracy" minded people who feel that "they are out to get them" and in the majority of alt-meetings the are no clear guide lines to allow a consensus on the subject of openness/closeness, thus videoing is often band. At the ESF the are clear principals that every one involved agrees with thus a real consensuses is possible if people are interested in achieving one. At the beginning of the meeting I put to the chars a good workable proposal about filming the meetings that would have clearly respected peoples need not to be filmed for whatever reason real or imagined. The water rats report! ESF EXCLUSIVE

Today the SWP used different people to speak at the 2nd European meeting to organises the London ESF. The green party deputy mare spoke but didn’t say anything – just like a politician. Finally, maybe we may perhaps might start thinking about the process… the was a secret smocked filled room were a real deal was done? Except this was the ESF so it was a light open room with lots of people looking on that did the deal… which maybe possibly could perhaps make the London ESF fulfil the principals of the Social forum movement. Please don’t be put off from participating because maybe, possibly, the is a chances the sects that fail to run the show maybe have noticed that they are not as essential as they always insisted. Good report back from WSF to ESF UK

Dear all,

i write from India, where, as some of you might know, i spent the last few months (from October last year) working in the WSF office in the organisation of the WSF 2004.

It has been an incredible experience! I thought i would be back in London soon to take active part in the organisation of the next ESF, but my plans have changed. My only chance to be with you is therefore virtual. The first few reflections are attached below. They will be in the Newsletter of The Friends of Le Monde Diplomatique. They are rather long notes (around 4 pages), but the most interesting paragraphs (for this list) are the last ones.

Hope this considerations could be of interest, I look forward to read your comments

See you soon

Oxford Anti-authoritarian Activist Network ready for the G8 and ESF

Oxfords alternative political and activist scene is vibrant and large... but it is not very easy to penetrate and access.
In order to facillitate a wider National/international network of activists social and community projects, and campaigns - that believe in organising democratically and horizontally it would be good to start thinking about ways of becoming more high profile and open. Read more >>
