Oxford Stop the War Coalition flies its true colours.

Oxford Stop the War Coalition flies its true colours.

Just why were the victims of the strike against the Iron Heel on 11 September 2001 thought so worthy of commemoration last Saturday? Why were they thought more worthy than those murdered by the agents of the Amerikan state in Chile on 11 September 1973 ? Or, for that matter the 1/4 of the population of Chechnya killed by the Russian military? Was it because:

1) The major imperative in any situation for Oxford 'alternatives' is: Look for the Victim.
2) It's a way of saying: Hey, we really are part of the majority, and of course we all know that '9/11' was one of the worst atrocities in the history of the world.
3) When push comes to shove those people are on the side of Imperialism, they just want it to be a little gentler.

Or Perhaps all terrorism should be condemned

All terorism whether state terror like in Chile or acts such as 9/11 should be condemned. That is a balanced humane view. Bombing civilians in Fallujah is wrong as it is an act of Imperialistic aggression. Killing firemen and construction workers in NY, in order to bring about some form of Pan Islamic Caliphate(As AL Queda desires) is reprehensible too.

Or perhaps a sense of perspective is required

. . . if, in all the things that have happened in the last few days, this was the one that annoyed David Murray most.

If Mr. Murray believes that the real world of the Twin Towers was something like the Hollywood fantasy of corporate America, inhabited solely by the big money players, without secretaries, mail persons, coffee-machine fillers, janitors, . . . all of whom are people as much exploited by corporate America as the Palestinian terminal worker in Abu Dhabi or somewhere.

If Mr. Murray believes that many of the supporters of Oxford Stop The War Coalition haven't also been campaigners against the atrocities of Chile and Chechnya.

If he has't noticed that a large part of the world has been reminded of the actions of 9/11 in the last few days, and can't conceive that the injection of a protest by the Stop The War Coalition can serve as a reminder that the way to world without imperialism, and without the hatreds and misconceived actions that imperialism engenders, does NOT involve lining up behind Bush and Blair.
