Below you find a short questionnaire with questions on the use of the Indymedia site. We would like to ask you if you would be willing to fill out this questionnaire. It will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes of your time.
This questionnaire is part of a survey on Indymedia, held by the Department of Communication, University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In this survey, the IMCs of Oxford, Belgium and the Netherlands are compared with regard to content, organization of the sites and users. Objective of this survey is to gain insight into how this innovative form of alternative media functions.
You can fill out the questionnaire anonymously. All collected materials will be dealt with confidentially and will not be used outside the scope of this survey.
The questionnaire starts with a number of general questions on your media use and political preference. Subsequently, a number of questions on your use of the Indymedia.be site will be asked, followed by a number of statements on which you are asked to give your opinion.

what are your objectives?

the imc-uk newswire is a platform for news from the streets and social movements, not a research tool. Although the editorial guidelines are used in a flexible way, it may be possible that your posting will be hidden.
You may be able to get support from imc activists if you would answer a few questions:
What are the objectives of the research? Where can I read the research proposal? Which methodology are you using? What is your theoretical framework? Which questions are you attempting to discuss in your research? Where are the results going to be published? Who is funding the project?
The questionnaire looks pretty much like a market research project. Did Oxford Indymedia or any other indymedia team commission you to carry out this study? Have you approached your local independent media center first? Have you approached any other imc lists?
Are you targeting only imc oxford, or other imcs as well? Why did you choose these particular imc/imcs?
Do you consider any ways in which your study might benefit the imc network?

Why Indymedia Netherlands refused to take part in this study

Indymedia Netherlands therefore decided not be turned into a research object like this. Our reply (in dutch and english) has also been sent to imc-europe http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-europe/2004-May/001858.html
