YCM events are non- party political, they provide a way for local people to influence decision-making and to inform local service delivery in their area. Every 4 months (November, March, and July) a YCM event is held in all 30 wards of the city. They bring together local residents, councillors, the Police, City Council officers and other partner agencies in order to identify local ‘quick win’ priorities.
The events start at 5:30pm and finish at 7.45pm. Refreshments and travel expenses are available (please bring receipts). In addition, children are very welcome to attend, as we offer a ‘quiet play’ area for younger children, and older children can take part in the discussions. Please note that unfortunately we are unable to offer child care at the events, so parents and guardians will need to supervise any children in their care.
These events are not just about talking but about agreeing priorities that can be achieved in a 4-month period. The local priorities for action could include:
• To clean up an area that is receiving high levels of fly tipping and to deal with the people who are doing it
• To organise a community event
• To identify and deal with an issue of antisocial behaviour.
These priorities are then taken away by the Task and Finish groups with a designated lead officer who is then responsible for co-ordinating that priority. Feedback on the progress with the priorities will then be given in four months time at the next YCM event.
Full reports for both the October 07 and February 08 events are available on request. Each set of events has individual reports for each of the 5 areas, as well as an overall report.
Liverpool Community Network’s role is to make sure the events are useful, pro-active and enjoyable and we welcome all comments and feedback in terms of whether we are achieving this or how we can make it better.
