Since approximately 10.45 this morning, there have been massive riots in the streets of central Liverpool.
Riots have been sparked by one of the most brutal episodes of Liverpool's police history, when two young men (names and ages unknown) were beaten heavily and arrested in full public view by around eight police.
This incident has caused massive uprisings of somewhere between 400 and 800 people stretching from Upper Parliament St. down to Bold Street. Observers say that the police have used horses and dogs to combat the protesters, and the protesters have responded with rocks and bottles.
This may represent the culmination of months of increased tensions between Merseyside Police and the urban poor including a significant anti-capitalist minority.
Supporters of freedom and justice are encouraged to come to the city centre as soon as possible to join the protesters who have already occupied several commercial buildings and have set up barricades to combat the police. Eyewitnesses are saying that the police are in fact being pushed back.
