Autonomous Study Project in Cambridge

Cambridge Action Network | 25.10.2004 08:45 | Cambridge

In the next week, members of the Cambridge Action Network
(  http://www.cambridgeaction.net ) will be forming a group to study topics
connected with various social struggles both locally and around the world.

The aim for the year is to focus on issues ranging from intellectual
property rights to gender issues; from immigration and asylum rights to
situationism. We will not only attempt to produce useful resources, but
do so in a manner which is connected to social activism and grassroots
organizing, and helps build alternatives to current political structures.
As a long term goal, we are considering forming a think tank in Cambridge
connecting various members of the Cambridge community. The first meeting
will be held on Wednesday Oct. 27th at 7.30 pm, Godwin Room, Clare
College.

There, people can meet others who are interested in similar topics of
research, discussion and activism. Our first discussion will be on what
we should be reading, and what are the most effective resources that we
can produce in response to the various forms of control we see around us.
We are inviting those already knowledgeable in their field as well as
anyone interested in learning more about a topic in a supportive, dynamic
environment. We hope that from the first gathering the nature of the group
can be defined further by all of us together.

If you are interested in attending the gathering, or participating in
further events, please email  asp@cambridgeaction.NOSPAMnet

Sincerely,
members of the Cambridge Action Network,
and the Autonomous Study Project

Good, research is a crucial part of activism, know your enemy, etc. But why oh why, is what have you proposed the usual activist agenda of asylum, media, etc? Welfare states across the the world are being savaged, massive cuts in benefits and health enacted. I am beginnig to think a middle classs agenda is now dominating social change groups.

Well maybe they should be looking into that too.

BUT, the real question, oxygirl, is why aren't YOU forming a group to research all that stuff...

For a map of where to go for the Study Project:

The Goodwin room is in the Old Court building (D staircase).

And, of course, bring ideas and topics for discussion! Don't let our middle-class preoccupations govern the direction of debate!
