Public Meeting No Private Profits From Policing !

West Midlands Against Policing for Profit | 19.09.2012 08:24 | Policing | Birmingham

7pm on Thursday 27th September
Birmingham Council House

The West Midland Police Authority is developing a Business Partnering for Policing Programme. Companies that have been shortlisted as possible suppliers of police services include G4S, KBR and Serco - companies that have been involved in serious human rights violations.

All this, at a time when the public needs the police to become more accountable and answerable.

What will handing over policing to private companies mean?

Speakers:

Jill Harrison, UNISON West Midlands Police Staff Branch
Gargi Bhattacharyya, West Midlands Against Policing for Profit
Speaker from Unite The Union
Dave Stamp, ASIRT

privatising the monopoly on violence

20.09.2012 21:05

What sets a nation state apart from privet business, is the monopoly on violence, according to Barack Obama, while talking about contracting out the invasion of Iraq. He excused the monopoly on violence with the what he called 'the structure of accountability' which we know doesn't exist, and never will for any one who has a monopoly on violence! ;)

The STATEus quo is maintained by the Army, enforcing foreign policy, and the Policy Force, enforcing domestic policy. Contracting out the violence is hardly privatising anything. We won't get a free market choice wether or not to purchase these services, or who to purchase them from, as we do from genuine privet traders.
