Project champion spy cameras to be used at Olympics

The controversial spy cameras that were part of Project Champion and put up in predominantly Muslim Areas of Birmingham have been sold to other police forces for use during next years Olympics.



The cameras which log vehicle details were removed after they were secretly put up as a counter terrorism measure in Muslim areas of Birmingham. They have now been sold for £1 each to other forces around the country; 22 to the Met, 9 to Strathclyde, two to Essex and 11 to Coventry. West Midlands Police have retained another 70 covert cameras and 85 overt cameras from project Champion and is awaiting a review of all CCTV cameras in Birmingham and the Black Country before deciding what to do with them.
