Central Birmingham Amnesty International | 03.10.2007 19:34 | Birmingham

A chilled out evening of music is being held at Café One on Broad Street on Saturday 13th October to support Amnesty International's annual Protect The Human Week

The event is being organised by members of Central Birmingham Amnesty Group, who will be joining thousands of supporters all over the UK holding events during the week, from 13 to 19 October, to fundraise for Amnesty and campaign to protect human rights everywhere.

The party is being held at Café One near Five Ways Shopping Centre, Broad Street from 6pm onwards. The setting will be a chilled out environment with a live DJ set, dancing and a photographic exhibition on China.

Everyone is welcome to attend. For further information please contact Café One on 0121 245 0001 or visit the Central Birmingham Amnesty Group's website www.amnesty.org.uk/centralbirmingham

Each year, Protect The Human Week celebrates human rights through events such as themed parties, comedy or club nights. It is an important part of Amnesty's drive to get a million people in the UK standing up for human rights and humanity.

Protect The Human Week 2007 will also see the launch of unsubscribe - a chance for people to unite against human rights abuses in the `War on Terror'.

Group Secretary, Jennifer Emerson says "Our Protect The Human Party will combine a chance for local people to enjoy themselves while raising money to support Amnesty's vital work for human rights all over the world."

Amnesty International has over 260,000 members and supporters in the UK, acting on behalf of individuals whose human rights are threatened and campaigning on a range of issues. These include ending torture and the death penalty, stopping violence against women, controlling the arms trade, encouraging businesses to improve their impact on human rights, supporting freedom of expression on the Internet and seeking a fair and effective asylum system. There are more than two million Amnesty supporters worldwide.
