Selfridges had been selling rabbit fur, claiming it was a 'by product' of the meat trade, but following weekly (and sometimes daily) protests outside the stores in London, Manchester and here in Birmingham they have finally come to their senses. This is yet another major victory as Selfridges are one of the most influential names in fashion. This success follows on from CAFT campaigns against Harvey Nichols, Zara and Snow + Rock, all of which saw many demos at their Birmingham stores!

Over the past year, West Midlands Animal Action have held numerous demos outside Selfridges newest store in Birmingham`s Bull Ring. Our most recent demo, was just 4 days ago, as part of the National Week of Action against Selfridges. A total of 25 protesters staged a 4 hour demo, when over 2,500 leaflets were handed out to the general public and a dancing, drumming rabbit entertained the crowds on New Street!! CHANGE TO FUR POLICY

BACKGROUND

Selfridges has reviewed its policy on fur and will no longer be selling any fur products in its stores. This will come into force with immediate effect.

This policy revision was made after taking into account customer feedback and a decline in demand for fur related products.

The official statement for the revised policy is as follows:

“Selfridges does not sell fur in any of its stores.”
