Large numbers of people gathered for an anti-war rally and march in Birminham City Centre.

Large numbers of people gathered for an anti-war rally and march in Birminham City Centre.

The crowd that filled Victoria Square cheered several speakers, including representatives of the CND, a human rights lawyer and school children who were involved in the mass student walkout.

A speaker also talked about the danger of Israel taking advantage of the war to continue ethnic cleansing while the worlds attention is on Iraq.

After the rally, the crowd moved off down New street. A group of protesters blocked a road for some time in a show of civil disobedience. They were eventually moved off by large numbers of police.

The people who gathered to show their disapproval of the war were very mixed. The mood was one of hope that sustained political pressure could eventually make a difference.
