An open letter to Heckler & Koch

The first protest against Nottingham-based arms company Heckler & Koch took place in May 2000, but it wasn’t until May 2008 that another demonstration launched the Shut Down H&K campaign, which has been running ever since.

18 months in, the campaign has decided that it’s about time to speak to Heckler & Koch. So, the campaign has written H&K a letter summarising the people’s concerns and asking the company to come clean about its dirty business…

Arms company Heckler & Koch has been in the news this week. It seems that H&K, whose international sales office is located in Nottingham, is still in the business of arming regimes that are well known to commit gross violations of human rights. Notts Anti-Militarism looks at three examples from around the world.

On Friday 13th Nov, Nottingham Arms Dump is to symbolically “dump” a 25 foot model gun at the doors of Heckler and Koch (large dealer of small arms) as a gesture to say “no to the arms trade, no to Heckler and Koch” and also to highlight other anti-arms trade campaigns such as Shut Down Heckler and Koch and SMASH EDO/ITT.

25ft gun being marched to Heckler and Koch

A small but dedicated group of Nottingham residents and activists have built a 25 foot willow wood rifle. It will be marched to the UK head quarters of international gun makers and sellers Heckler and Koch, Easter Park Industrial Estate, Lenton, Nottingham.

Poppy Appeal billboard 'vandal' apologises

Both the Army Romors Service website and a local paper in Kent are today reporting that a public 'apology' has been issued by the person who subvertised one of the Afghan Generation poppy appeal posters at Gillingham train station. According to the report on Kent News, the same billboard has been subvertised again, this time with the new message "SORRY. NEVER AGAIN...?"

Nottingham Dealers at World’s Biggest Arms Fair

Once every two years, in the London Docklands, the world's biggest arms fair takes place. It's spelt DSEi, it's pronounced "Dicey", and this year it took place from 8th-11th September. Joining over 1,000 arms companies from around the world were a couple of outfits from Nottingham, catering to opposite ends of the small arms market.
