In September 2011 news broke of Israel’s attempt to forcibly remove Bedouin from 60% of the West Bank into controlled enclosures. This will include the expulsion of Bedouin communities from the Jordan Valley clearing 95% of the land in this vast area of 2000 km2 that makes up 1/3 of the West Bank.
Two activists from the Jordan Valley Solidarity Campaign will be coming to explain how they have been working with Bedouin communities to build a campaign of non violent resistance to these expulsions.
Fathe Kdirat is the Palestinian co-ordinator of Jordan Valley Solidarity, who has built up a strong community network over the last 7 years, by informing others and inspiring them to take action.
Itaf Njoum Karma is the Jordan Valley Solidarity co-ordinator for the Bedouin community of Ras Al Auja, just north of Jericho. She has spent a considerable amount of time with this community of around 100 families, to plan and build their own mud brick community school, and then to teach in the school with other local volunteers. She stood with them when the Israeli army came to demolish it, then worked with them to start again!
Please come and hear this inspiring account of how Palestinian communities and internationals are working together to witness, catalogue and resist this campaign of ethnic cleansing, and hear what you can do to add your support.
