Performers Anna Chen, Lucy Sheen & Veronica Needa tell stories of identity & belonging, parenting & politics, giving insights & entertainment both moving & amusing in three solo presentations during this week.
Veronica Needa: FACE
Performed bilingually in English and Cantonese Veronica speaks of her Hong Kong Eurasian experience both here and in Hong Kong. Her story is followed by a second half of Playback Theatre facilitated by Veronica, with members of True Heart Theatre, inviting stories from the audience on the theme of identity and belonging.
Lucy Sheen: There Are Two Perfectly Good Mes: One Dead, the Other Unborn
Lucy Sheen - a Chinese baby adopted by an English family. Growing up here in England, questioning her identity has been challenging & necessary, with layers of revelation. (A play in development)
Anna Chen: Anna May Wong Must Die!
A personal journey through the life and crimes of Hollywood’s first Chinese superstar by Anna Chen. Developed from Chen’s BBC Radio 4 programme, A Celestial Star in Piccadilly, with her customary wit, perspicacity and a few songs. (A play in development)
True Heart Theatre is a London-based Chinese-led theatre company with the capacity to work multi-lingually - in English, Cantonese and Mandarin - to produce performances giving insight into the life of the Chinese in Britain and encourage cross-cultural integration.
