Call out to Brendan / London Animal Rights and Bedford Animal Rights.

Anti Vivisection Activist | 18.02.2010 18:48 | SOCPA | Animal Liberation | Bio-technology | Repression | South Coast | World

In October 2009 plans were unvelied by the government, Glaxo Smith Kline, Wellcome Trust and Stevenage council for a new Stevenage Bio Sciences Park. This will of course contain new animal testing labs. The plans wee unvieled in October and have been met with SILENCE. Is there a campaign other then struggling local activists who do not want the lab? Will there be a national group?

We want to know, DEMAND to know what is being done about this, if anything. If nothing is being done, why is this?

Unveiled is one thing. But unveLIEING is being done. Deliberate spelling error.

Unveiled. To who?

Cover up, cover up and more cover up.

The EEDa link works. The Wellcome Trust link doesn't...deliberate cover up error

???Doesnt sound good, thou is this a distraught activist or a fubar disinfo camp

18.02.2010 19:44

pain in the arse?I cant be the only 1 not sure.
yes something should be done, your words arent inspiring& your not using normal communications.
Either way, Iam overstretched like many, but I would actively support a campaign on a universal moratorium on all unsafe & unethical unscientific testing, there should be a national,eu & universal referendum on it. Its one of the most serious issues of our age with nano superweapons & the partical accelerator happening now also, needs to be universal rights & regulations in place,
we cant have demos about everything, unless you can fund it mate???
sorry if u think Iam coming across all sensible or maybe u think unsensible depending on your mood,

Overstretched activist

There was a posting about this a few months ago. Needless to say BAA will be doing what it can to stop this going ahead and taking action if it does but we can not promise anything big. There will be a BAA meeting in March the details will be posted about places so if you want you can come down an discuss tactics. Sorry BAA have been a bit quiet recently becasue of an upcoming court case on the 22nd of Feb.

Contact me with any ideas for action that can be taken by this email

(this is not the BAA email adress)

Labs being built simultaneously in UK, a deliberate government tactic?

18.02.2010 21:35

The government have given their backing to these labs which makes our local campaign fights against them much more difficult. If local government [councils] do not give the labs their backing then national government will. It is also more difficult to convince peole that something is wrong if the government supports something, even if it seems that the plans for the labs are openly corrupt to some.
If there is a big multi Stop The UK Labs campaign that refers to and supports each of the local campaigns against the proposed labs that might be a good idea. Local campaigns include residents who don't want labs for various reasons, many are not AR activists and will not join AR groups.
The government have in my opinion been tactical in their own campaigns aginst activists and the timing of these new labs. It is not the fault of activists if there has been cover ups by govermment at local and national level around the labs. Residents in Camden were only told about the Camden Bio Hazard and Animal Lab plans several weeks before the land was sold although some councillors had been made aware four years previously.
Campaigners have also been subjected to strong policing, harrassment and bullying. A resident [not an AR activist] at a local residents meeting about the lab in Camden last night said "We are up against heavies". A councillor has been told by another councillor that he "should stop campaigning if he wants to keep his career as a councillor", a resident has had malicious and false complaints made about her [she is a 62 widow and was accused of being a gang member and holding gang parties in her flat which was a load of rubbish], others have had experienced harrassment described as "things that go bump in the night". We continue to campaign and the update from the last meeting is being written up on here.

Activists are in a position where we have been presented with more than one lab at once which stretches campaigners. I don't think it will be effective to launch several national campaigns at the same time.
Bedford Animal Action are a good group and capable of fighting their corner against the Hertfordshire lab with local residents.

Re : Bedford Animal Action email given by last poster....

18.02.2010 21:47

My advice would be to email BAA via their usual and genuine email address.

this stinks

19.02.2010 12:53

Why do a call out on Indymedia - it's not as if London or Bedford Animal Actions are hard to find. There is no reason for these posts being here. Even if this is a kid, then that still does not excuse naming Brendan like this. And the charges of bullying is just more bullshit stirring things up.

These posts stink to high heaven

unnecessary

Any true AR campaigner

19.02.2010 13:15

just wouldn't post such rubbish on here. IM isnt for this purpose.

I couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, vegan or not.....

Brendan

Communities are the last to know with these labs.

19.02.2010 19:55

The government is not consulting communities about these labs. This is a deliberate tactic.

anon

Indymedia IS for news about labs actually.

19.02.2010 22:21

This is exactly what Indymedia is for. No one knew about the labs. Now they do. If nothing is being done or is seen to be done about the Stevenage labs then it's a fair enough question to ask what can be done or what is being done in Stevenage.

The person who wrote that "this stinks" is someone who probably does not want anyone to know about the Stevenage labs ie keep them discreet. The bullying remarks and "even if this is a kid" are probably written by a Big Pharma person who doesn't want anyone to know about Stevenage labs. As for "this stinks", what STINKS is the person who says we "should be discreet about labs"...now THAT' stinks.

No one should berate children online, whatever they have done.

a fucking joke

20.02.2010 00:28

pls request to delete your story with apologies to all who have wasted time here?

not completely insane

The post informs people about the lab...maybe another post from AR?

20.02.2010 01:58

If people really have a problem with youngsters making posts then perhaps someone from Bedford Animal Action can provide one about the lab and their campaign? This is more sensible than all the arguments on Indymedia or attacking someone for writing a post, however it has been worded.

.....

20.02.2010 09:40

IM is for news yes but not for contacting people. BAA and Brendan are easy to locate. Anyone with a brain cell knows how to Google this information and go through the correct channels.

Buz is a fuzz. Oh yes you are!
