Following the close vote on the NUS leadership's anti-democratic "Governance Review" at the Extraordinary Conference on 4 December, there is every chance of defeating these reforms at NUS Conference in April. ENS is therefore giving over its planned activists' meeting to an open discussion of the campaign, as well as other ideas for taking the student activist left forward.
(It should be stressed that this is NOT an official meeting of the Save NUS Democracy campaign, though everyone involved in that campaign is very welcome.)
The agenda will be open, but discussions will include:
- Assessment of the Extraordinary Conference; how to move forward with the campaign to defend NUS democracy
- Attempting to get a united left slate for the full-time NUS NEC elections (an invitation has been sent to Student Respect, SWSS and others to attend)
- Organising a conference on the way forward for the student movement in the new year (a suggested venue is Sussex Uni)
- Free education campaigning
2.30pm, Sunday 9 December
The upstairs room of the Lucas Arms, Grays Inn Road, five minutes from Kings Cross station, London
(The Feminist Fightback steering committee will take place in the same room, 12-2pm)
