Brett Cohen | 27.09.2007 13:25 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | South Coast

Members of the Palestinian delegaton to Brighton went to the weekly noisy demonstration outside EDO MBM in Home Farm Road, Brighton, yesterday to express their anger at the manufacturers of components for weapons used on thier families by the Israeli military.

Palestinian delegates to Brighton: Naveen, Tubas women's group and Mohammed Tubas Red Crescent attended the weekly noisy protest outside EDO MBM in Home Farm Road yesterday. (Wed 27 Sept)

The Palestinian delegates visited the factory to express their anger at the manufacture of components for weapons believed to be used against their families in Palestine. They also wished to experiences an English-style protest. Police attempted to film them without asking for permission and were prevented by local citizens. After persistent negotiations the police stopped filming for the duration of the demonstration.

Naveen said: 'It makes me angry to think of these people who have such easy lives thoughtlessly making weapons that are making the lives of my family and friends so hard and miserable.' Mohammed said: 'If they could see my ambulance being delayed at checkpoints while critically ill patients are dying I am sure they would think twice about making the weapons that support the military occupation of my homeland.'

Later they were joined by Fathe, Stop The Wall-Tubas at the Cowley Club, London Road, where he gave a talk on how people in Brighton can build stronger links with People in Palestine. Fathe said: ' I am offering an open invitation to anyone from Brighton who wishes to see for themselves the situation in Tubas. There are plenty of opportunities for people who wish to give their time and experience. We are not looking for charity, but definitely appreciate the emotional support we receive from solidarity groups like yours.'

Tomorrow the group will speak with Brighton MP's David Lepper and Des Turner. Tom Hayes, 38, of the Brighton-Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group said: 'It is fantastic to be able to take these people on a demonstration here and to see they approve, because it shows we have the support of the people most directly affected by this company's merchandise of death.'
