Over 200 people listened to speeches and festooned the seafront railings at Dover with purple ribbons.
Then they marched and outsmarted the police by doubling back and sitting in the road blocking all port traffic.
This lasted for about 20 minutes to half an hour and then the police started moving in with back up reinforcements.
This demo then broke up and reassembled in Dover town where again police slowly arrived and corralled people in. There were 3 arrests.
Breakaway groups went to other parts of Dover centre and held impromptu demonstrations. Locals were happy to take leaflets and learn why we were demonstrating.
This sort of public non-violent direct action is an excellent way to get the message across. Dover will quite probably receive more of this sort of attention.
The feeling at the end of the day was positive and everyone had a feeling that action had resulted in a noticeable inconvenience to the port.
