Brighton and Hove Albion fans have released a single in support of their new ground
at Falmer.

BRIGHTON FANS RELEASE SINGLE IN SUPPORT OF THEIR NEW STADIUM AT FALMER
WITH BACKING OF SPONSORS SKINT RECORDS

Release Date Monday, January 3rd 2005

Seven years since the Goldstone Ground was destroyed by uncaring moneymen, seven
years of fans' campaigns - and still Brighton & Hove Albion FC doesn't have a
proper home and is in severe financial difficulties. So here's another chapter
in the story of the Albion supporters' battle to save our club.....

A few weeks ago we had the idea of reclaiming the Piranhas' national football
ska hit 'Tom Hark' for Brighton with new lyrics in support of our stadium, with
the dual aim of raising money for the Albion's Alive & Kicking Fund and trying
to take the Falmer For All Campaign into the Top 20 in the month before the
Public Enquiry restarts! The Piranhas were Brighton through and through, in the
forefront of the local punk scene in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Many
of us have very fond memories of their gigs at legendary Brighton venues like
the Vault and the Alhambra and it has always seemed quite ironic to me to hear
their song blasting out from other clubs' PA systems and chanted by opposing
fans.

So as part of the campaign for our new stadium, 'Seagulls Ska' proudly present
our new version of 'Tom Hark' along with a seriously ska version of our beloved
anthem 'Sussex By The Sea' - and the alternative 1990 Cup Final song for our
rivals Crystal Palace! Of course, you'll hear 'Tom Hark' at the next few Albion
home games...

This record is dedicated to all the fans who have battled so long, so hard and
with such creativity and imagination to keep our club alive: to the Piranhas,
especially Bob Grover, who inspired it and who has given us his blessing: to
Dick Knight and the Albion board, who pulled us back from the brink: and of
course to the Albion players, whose dedication, commitment and self-belief
against unbelievable odds have given a club with no ground and no money three
promotions in four years. And to Skint for backing us. Thanks.

THE LYRICS

TOM HARK (We Want Falmer!)

Intro:
'Prescott, Prescott give us a ground!' (recorded live by the massed ranks of
Albion fans!!)

We want Falmer
We need Falmer
We need Falmer
We want Falmer

We Brighton fans are angry - we've been messed around
Since the ******* Archer sold the Goldstone Ground
We're stuck in an athletics track we really hate
Like playing in Albania Division Eight!

The whole thing's daft
We don't know why
We have to laugh
Or else we'll cry
Our ground's too small
The costs too high
Without Falmer
Our club will die

For years the planning process has dragged on and on
A paralytic snail wouldn't take that long
So listen Mr Prescott as we tell you how
We need our Falmer Stadium - we need it now!

The whole thing's daft
We don't know why
We have to laugh
Or else we'll cry
Our ground's too small
The costs too high
Without Falmer
Our club will die

(Instrumental)

We want Falmer
We need Falmer
We need Falmer
We want Falmer.....

Falmer Stadium.....

Falmer Stadium... Bad Idea. Lets all dig up the future South Downs national park and turn it into a huge car park. Why not tell Sainsbury's to f**k off from the building site near Brighton Station and build it there instead? Not an environmentalist freak, but think its a bad idea to dig up some beautiful countryside for a large urban development. Realise Withdean is a sh**hole, but don't believe there are no other brownfield sites. Perhaps we could bulldoze a few yuppy flats instead.

Bulldoze the homes of the rich instead.

bad idea

stadium will mean more roads, destruction of cycle lane access to lewes
the club can not afford it anyway, will finance it through retail development
infringement on south downs, the directors are only in it to make a fast buck
a capacity of 20,000 will not sustain a club long term so will need expansion
club made itself hoeless by selling ground. Prescott can not go against his
own planning inspector etc etc

falmer is a crap idea and has been taking all our energy for far too long .. it is a con .. did anyone really think we'd get permission!!!!! we have all been led down the garden path .. sorry but that is the truth .. to me it should be the station or shoreham .. and before you say thats too far out for most brighton fans its probably dead central for most fans today .. sure i don't fancy the walk from whitehawk but there you go!!!

No to Falmer

Some years ago Nigel B sent me the following. I just knew it should it should be kept.

POW!

Way back in 1983 Attila the poet spoke to me,
his wit and bite had integrity
A Shakespeare of radicalism, a Milton of militancy.
Through the 90's he could bring a tear to the eye
then five minutes later bring a smile to the lips
such was the emotion of his delivery
and the power of his quips.
But what's this? Bassam,Caplin and developers drivel...
Oh Attila! how easily you swivel!!!
To you nothing south of the Bypass is of any worth,
Attacking the womb of the Downs that gave you birth.
Falmer is but a muddy field by a road,
but a muddy field is precious and pretty
compared to your longed-for concrete and glass monstrosity.
You denigrate those who stand up for the Downs
trying to tar us with the same brush as right wing clowns.
A tired old trick, which may get you cheer,
after the game, from bellies full of beer.
There's many a brown field at your beloved Shoreham
that could be a new home for the Albion of which we could all be proud,
Instead you want to wrap mother nature in a shroud
As for you and your works they will never be seen in the same light again
as true believers see the light and your star will wane.
Let's face it Attila, come off it!!! you're not the people's poet...
you're just for profit.....

John Hughes
