Problem kids' home outrage:

http://underclassrising.net/ | 13.03.2009 18:21 | Sheffield

NEIGHBOURS on a quiet suburban Sheffield street are on the warpath after discovering a family house is being converted into a privately-run home for problem youngsters, the “Not In My Back Yard” asked a contractor putting up a six foot fence around the house what was going on.

It was then discovered Nottingham-based Pathway Care Solutions had no need to apply for planning permission for the changes, to use the home for working class kids - which will provide accommodation for three children aged 10 and older. They will be on the care register but will not have foster or adoption placements, and will be looked after by two care workers.

Residents in the cul-de-sac are astonished that plans for the home could be given the go-ahead without any opportunity for them to have a say.

"It beggars belief - anyone planning to change the size of their garage or put up an extension needs to get planning permission, yet this home has just appeared in our street without any such procedures at all," said one resident.

“In words, we do not desire these youngsters in our community, all right, we have to deal with rowdy Students and though their vomit, pissing in people's gardens and other anti social antics, such as waking people at 3am, we can deal with this, it is all about learning.”

“Being at university is about been given opportunity and life experience”, said one of the local residents in the cul-de-sac and they are astonished that plans for the home could be given the go-ahead without any opportunity for them to have a say.

Council officers who looked at the case decided no planning permission was needed as fewer than six people would be living in the children's home. A similar ruling would have covered a family home being turned into student accommodation.

But the Reservoir Road residents believe their situation has wider implications for other suburbs.

“Is there not enough accommodation to house them in their own community”, exclaimed another local. Now we are open about being openly-classist, our utter contempt towards the middle class, but here we have the very people who criticise us for our political views.

Indeed even the ward's Lib Dem councillors (including council leader Paul Scriven) were unaware of the development,"Sheffield currently places many of its looked-after children in homes outside the city, and social services have been put under pressure to find them placements closer to home," said one close neighbour.

"One obvious solution is to open a number of small homes like this one all over the city - that's why we feel this is a city-wide issue, not just one for Crookesmoor."

Resident Mark Thompson said neighbours were now seeking legal advice on the lack of consultation by Pathway Care Solutions and the council.

"We'll take this as far as we can," he said. "We know there has to be provision for children like these but is it really appropriate to place them in the middle of a small community with absolutely no consultation whatsoever?"

Lib Dem Coun. Shaffaq Mohammed, who represents the area, said he was adamant local people should be consulted, just the same as people living in the city centre are when another late venue is open, makes an application for late opening times, it seems there is one rule for the middle class an other for our class, if we were to behave and act as Students often do, we would no doubt find ourselves in trouble with the police.

The not in my back yard protest stinks of anti-working class sentiment, from the very people who state we should strive for a better inclusive society, and give those with a disadvantage opportunity, so then we ask why shouldn't working class children live in Crooksmoor? is just for the preserve of the middle class, with the slum housing in these areas for the underclass. As long as we are not seen or heard and paying £50 pounds a week for a one room flat to a profiteering landlord, they're happy.

No doubt private Residents like Mark Thompson who said neighbours were now seeking legal advice on the lack of consultation by Pathway Care Solutions and the council, will get their way.

"We'll take this as far as we can," he said. "We know there has to be provision for children like these but is it really appropriate to place them in the middle of a small community with absolutely no consultation whatsoever?"

Yes, dysfunctional children are all scum. Anyone on the dole is scum. Anyone who commits a crime, no matter what the circumstances, are scum.

It's the easy answer to everything - don't like what someone's doing? Don't bother to try and understand - no - just brand 'em 'SCUM' and then you can pretend to ignore them while simultaneously lambasting them for their scum like behaviour.

We used to have an approach to this mentality - the teacher gets you to put on the triangular hat with the big 'D' on it, and tells you to go and stand in the corner facing the wall.

Ah, the good old days - didn't you just love 'em?

Now here is a thought could it not have been put next door to Lib Dem Nick Clegg?
