not guilty of causing harrassment, alarm and distress during a protest
last summer. On 16th July 2008, they climbed onto a rooftop at the
Victoria St office of Edelman PR, who are contracted by energy company
E.ON. Their banner said: "EDELMAN PR: SPINNING THE CLIMATE OUT OF
CONTROL".
The judge presiding over the case at Westminster Magistrates' court on
Monday said he was not satisfied that there was evidence of
harassment, as opposed to inconvenience, being caused to members of
the public. The activists were on trial after contesting an £80 Fixed
Penalty Notice fine for the offence.
Bradley Day, from Wantage, said, "E.ON are pushing hugely
controversional plans for a new coal power station at Kingsnorth,
which will lock the UK into releasing harmful carbon dioxide for years
to come. They are not an environmentally friendly company, yet are
trying hard to project this image in an attempt obscure their climate
crimes. We exposed Edelman as the PR machine behind E.ON's greenwash."
Jonathan Leighton, a Computer Science student at St Anne's College,
said, "Edelman are clearly embarrassed by their involvement with E.ON,
as evidenced by the fact that they released a video criticising our
protest which failed to address the fact that they are helping
perpetuate climate chaos. Climate change is estimated to be killing
150,000 per year, and this figure will rise, which is why I will
continue to take action."
