The carnival is about a spirit of freedom but this sense of freedom will be short-lived if the police get their way and install surveillance cameras on this unique and non-conformist road. We must continue to fight against their introduction.
Campaign group No CCTV (www.no-cctv.org,uk) are looking for volunteers to help distribute campaign materials at the event. As mainstream public opinion is finally waking up to the dangers of surveillance cameras the local police are clutching at straws - recent crime figures show that violent crime has fallen without CCTV so they now claim cameras will magically stop car crime!
We need to raise awareness at the carnival - we haven't lost the fight yet.
If you can spare some time at the carnival to give out leaflets/newsletters or just talk to carnival goers about the campaign against CCTV then contact ( info@no-cctv.org.uk).
Better community reduces crime, technology does not.
