Life without Water? public meeting

OxWDM & OxPSC | 09.03.2006 20:39 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Oxford

22nd March is World Water Day and the World Water Forum (WWF), (private sector think tank) is being held in Mexico City.

Wednesday 22nd March, 7:30pm

The World Water Forum is dominated by private sector interests, with little input from civil society organisations. Access to water is necessary for all, for our livelihoods, our lives and that of the planet. Yet for many, access to water is under difficult conditions, or priced out of their reach.

Oxford World Development Movement Group and Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign have organised a public speaker meeting, 'LIFE WITHOUT WATER?' which aims to address the importance of water in the lives of those whose access to it is limited, and suggest ways forward.

Speakers and topics are:
- Maggie Black, author of the No-nonsense Guide to Water: Water: a matter of life and health

- Richard Stanforth, Oxfam: Providing Water Under Occupation: Oxfam's water programme in the Palestinian Territories

- Kevin Meaney, WDM: presenting a short film - Dirty Aid, Dirty Water

Wednesday 22nd March, 7:30pm

At: Long Room, Oxford Town Hall, St Aldates.
Donation £2/£1. All welcome.

water is an Element, it can not be destroyed, there is exactly the same amount of water on this planet as was on it when the dinsours ruled.
If there's a shortage, its man made and by way of greed and restriction
end of story

That's climate change

Two posters with their noggings screwed hopelessly onto their arses are not learning anything.
“There is just the same amount of water on the planet today as when time began”.
Of corse, and the glass I had this morning is already in the toilet, but I’m not going to drink it, you will.
Water comes out of the tap after it’s passed through many different humans and animals and a treatment works.
However less rain is falling in Africa or the UK where many people want to drink it and more is falling in the Arctic which is making polar bears a little bit sick.

It’s a bit like the argument that famines are not caused by food shortages, people here can still afford to deny the reality faced by those who are hungry, because here we destroy food if we fear a glut of the commodity.
The reality is clean water will become unavailable more expensive, in short supply and some people will have to drink their own urine.

Mean while is it a good idea to flush the toilet with drinking water.

we are not serious about making sustainable changes, it all a half flushed debate

Simon
