Today's attack on British troops in Umm Qasr and yesterday's attack in Amarah means that we have reached the 100 mark for British casualties in Iraq.
This is a benchmark the press has picked up on. While we all agree that coalition troops should not be there and that far too little attention has been paid to the huge number of Iraqi casualties (now approaching 200,000 by Robert Fisk's estimate), this is an opportunity we cannot afford to let pass.
The Oxford Stop the War Coalition is organizing a candlelit vigil to honour ALL THE VICTIMS IN IRAQ AND NOT LEAST THE IRAQI VICTIMS. It will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. We will assemble at 6:00PM in Cornmarket Street. If you can't make it at 6PM please join us when you can. This is one of over 100 vigils coordinated by the national Stop the War Coalition and held simultaneously across the country.
