The second ‘Globalisation, the G8 and Global Resistance’ is to be held between 5-7pm at the Oxford Action Resource Centre (Room 1 in the East Oxford Community Centre, Princes Street, off Cowley Road). This workshop will look at how the G8 came to be, how it works and why protest against them. It will look at protest and the building of alternatives as part of a global movement, including tales from past mobilisations. It will look at planning for local and international action with up to date information on the G8 Summit mobilisation so far. Participants are welcome to attend both or only one of the workshops.
Evening entertainment event to be announced shortly.
T*R*A*P*E*S*E - Take Radical Action through Popular Education and Sustainable Everything! is working to inform and mobilise around the issues behind the G8, (The Group of 8 most industrialised nations) who are holding their annual meeting in Gleneagles Scotland 6-8th July 2005.
They are a popular education collective which aims to provoke debate and inspire positive social change through interactive workshops and various social events. Our backgrounds and interests are diverse and include community theatre, international solidarity work, sustainable living projects and outreach and campaigning work with various anti-capitalist and ecological struggles.
They state ‘We see the G8 in Scotland as an opportunity to strengthen UK and global networks, raise public awareness of the current status quo and build alternatives. We hope to inspire and empower people to take action together in their communities, nationally and where appropriate internationally and to become part of the grassroots “movement of movements”. We plan to continue our work far beyond the summit and believe that is the everyday forms of resistance and strengthening alternatives that are the most powerful opposition to global capitalism’.
T*R*A*P*E*S*E is part of the Dissent! network, which is acting as a focal point for the communication and co-ordination of radical resistance to the G8 summit and beyond.
