DEMONSTRATION
Oxford Says No To Bush - British Troops Out Of Iraq
Saturday 30 October 2004
Assemble 12.30, Manzil Way (off Cowley Road)
March to town centre for rally with speakers

OXFORD SAYS NO TO BUSH

BRITISH TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ

The Oxford Stop the War Coalition is holding a local demonstration on Saturday 30th October. This will be an opportunity for us to protest against the policies of George W Bush on the eve of the US presidential election.

At a time when British troops are to be redeployed around Baghdad (which will result in higher casualties), and with talk of a brutal assault to come against the people of Fallujah, it is important to keep protesting. So if you are based in or around Oxford, please do all you can to support the demonstration by attending yourself and by helping to publicise it.

Assemble at 12.30pm in Manzil Way (off Cowley road).
We will march to the town centre, where there will be a rally with local speakers.

Speakers will include representatives from the Stop the War Coalition, CND, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other local campaigns.

same old same old

Why the same old speaker line up? why not Milan Rai from Operation Iraqui Focus for instance, why not an Iraq trade unionist? I fear this is more about keeping the good
ship STWC (and by default the SWP) afloat than any genuine attempt to put pressure on govts, as if we can by marching from A to B. In Sheffield, there is to be a satirical Presential Victory Parade, (whoever wins!) though we may have problems if the attack on Faluja has started.

Why focus on Bush?

25.10.2004 18:42

Why has the anti-war movement in the UK been reduced to protesting against Bush? What makes anybody believe that Kerry would be any better. At least we know where we stand with Bush. I am getting sick and tired of all this Bush-bashing. We should be focusing on the real issues instead of venting anger at one twisted individual. Bush is not the problem. The problem is a systematic and ideological one, and it won't go away if Bush is kicked out of the white house. You can march around and wave banners all you like and it won't change a thing. Two million marched in London in February 2003. If just 10% of that number had taken direct action against Britain's military machine (occupations of RAF/USAF bases, etc) we might have actually stopped the onslaught in Iraq. Instead, the massive popular opposition to the war and the potential militancy it could have generated have been co-opted into a pathetic and ever dwindling Trotskyist-dominated organisation known as the Stop The War Coalition. With another bloodbath imminant in Falluja, we desparately need to take some collective ACTION against the war from within the UK, but alas we will not have the opportunity that was presented in Feb 2003 again.

No to Milan Rai

Milan Rai is a liberal imperialist who wants a UN occupation instead of a US occupation.
