Saturday (May 22nd) all day at OCSET: let's enjoy the garden and make it as nice and useful as it can be!!!
On one hand, OCSET is at the moment trying to build a social/community centre, a space for everyone, for the community, for the people in Oxford, a space open and free for "non-capitalist use" as East Oxford definitely needs (the recent experiences of OCSET give strong support to this claim). On the other hand, the "development" plan basically means a modern ugly looking place that would have the only purpose of making the landlord (and the other people involved in the project) richer, without giving anything useful to the community. Furthermore, the actual OCSET has a beautiful garden that could be use to grow organic food, as an outdoor space to organise environmental activities, trainings, workshops, etc. The plan proposes to destroy this garden and extend the ugly building so that the landlord (and the other people involved in the project) can become even richer. This is completely unaceptable, simply frustrating. Is this what we want in Oxford? Is this what the community needs? Is this a good reason to throw the organisers of OCSET out of the building, although the building will probably remain empty for at least a few months (as the planning permission hasn't been given yet I think) and has been empty for about a year?
Doesn't all this sound completely ridiculous to you?
Anyway, OCSET still has the space and the beautiful garden, so let's enjoy it! Come on Saturday, all day, for a nice gardening day, come and make the garden as beautiful and useful as it can be!!! This green space still exists, let's make the most out of it!!!
Come this Saturday, May 22nd, at OCSET (which is the "Sunset cottages" on St Clements, just before South Parks)!!!
