Transition Nottingham Market, Sneinton Market Saturday 12th June 10.00-13.00

Beccy | 02.06.2010 05:58

A TASTE OF NOTTINGHAM'S SUMMER
With summer finally here, come to Sneinton Marketplace on the 12th June to experience Nottingham's' taste of summer at the Transition Market.

12th June sees the welcome return of the bi-monthly Transition Market at Sneinton Market. The Transition Market stall holders are all local artisans producing bread, jams, cakes, handicrafts and energy(!?) and is a treasure trove of urban resourcefulness and creativity. With Summer underway, this month the market will be celebrating things summer with local tastes and textures.

Beccy Spur, Transition Markets' originator and co-ordinator says " Sneinton Marketplace has long been overlooked, and the Transition Market is helping to make a Nottingham Market for Nottingham people"
So come to the Transition Market on 12th June at Sneinton, have a chat with the stall holders and soak up that sunny atmosphere!

If you would be interested in having a stall at this or future markets, or would like more information please contact Beccy on 07789917429 or  beki_boo65@hotmail.com

market changes

02.06.2010 10:28

There seem to have been tactics up and down the country to close down working class markets, replace stall owners, replace markets with 'craft' markets, close them dowthrough deals with large supermarkets, and bizarre 'french markets' and expensive 'noveau farmers markets' offering Archers style gourmet grills...

What exactly is transition - from what to what... More info please. Have you considered setting one up in the town formerly known as Long Eaton and now known as Tesco Superstore?

The purpose of the market

02.06.2010 11:14

The Transition Market aims to help bring back to life what used to be a thriving market and not shut down the existing stalls. The reality is there are not many regular stall holders at Snenton market anymore and the council are doing nothing to support it. If we dont use it we will lose it.

Transition Town Initiatives are a grassroots, action model for making the change to a low carbon future. One of the many ways a community can do this is by creating a local economy, something lacking in these globalised times.

The market is a low cost and low risk way for small scale local producers to have an outlet. It can also be used to create links with community groups, a place to create networks and share skills and ideas. The project is born out of a desire to recreate a sense community in a depressing Tesco City that is in danger of losing what remains of it's individuality, I am not saying it's going to save the world, We just want to try and make a small positive change.
