May Day Discussion

Nottingham Free School | 18.04.2010 07:31 | Migration | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements

The first in a programme of monthly discussions and debates that will be held on the last Sunday of every month at the Sumac Centre, Nottingham Freeschool invites you to an evening of discussion and reflection on the history and politics of Mayday.

Ever since the Haymarket Riots in 1886, Mayday has been a focus for anti-capitalist and workers’ struggle. As we approach Mayday 2010, we thought it would be an opportune moment to discuss the nature of class struggle today, as well as the different forms that resistance to capitalism can take.

The discussion will be in an ‘open space’ format, where separate tables are assigned a broad topic, and throughout the evening people are free to move as they wish between the different tables. The suggested topics include the issue of precarity in relation to immigrant workers, critiques of work, as well as the history of Mayday. However these are just suggestions, and the idea is to create a comfortable and quite informal space where people can take discussion in different directions. A table will be set aside with plenty of reading material, and tea and coffee will be supplied.

I argue for a option to spoil ballot as well as tactical cooperative voting+ NVDA& antifascist action's.
Be great to discuss this if we can use these tactics to get a direct democracy & positive change, especially with possibility of a hung parliament;)
