National Animal Rights Spring Gathering

Pat | 13.03.2010 23:11 | Animal Liberation

A weekend of networking, workshops, discussions, actions and social activities is being hosted by Nottingham Animal Rights and Veggies at The Sumac Centre in Nottingham.

This included a city-wide (and beyond) Day of Action on Saturday, with Fur Free Nottingham, foie gras campaigns, KFC, Greyhound Action, the 'great' British Circus, a vegan free food giveaway & McDonalds demo and a mass hunt sab.

ARC meetings are a great opportunity to meet up with other activists from all over the country, to catch up on the latest news about the current campaigns, and to swap ideas, tactics, skills and information.

Workshops still to come include:

- A Minority Pastime
- Activist Trauma & Support
- Web + Leaflet Design
- Direct Action
- Animism and Activism: spiritual methods to empower activism
- Legal
- Media & PR
- Animal First Aid
- Sexism, racism, Speciesism discussion
- Recruitment drive
- Self Defence

The Animal Rights Coalition is an informal network which exists to promote cooperation and to spread information between the various groups and individuals working throughout the UK to stop animal abuse.

The city-wide (and beyond) Day of Action, included Fur Free Nottm, foie gras campaign, KFC, Greyhound Action, the 'great' British Circus and a vegan free food giveaway McDonalds demo.

Stop Press: Following today's campaigning French Living have pledged to discontinue the sale of Foie Gras.

... and thanks the the presence of Nottingham Hunt Saboteurs and many friends, NO FOXES WERE KILLED at by the Grove and Rufford Hunt, on the last day of their season.

... meanwhile residents at Waddington, near Lincoln, have pledged that the Great British Circus will never return. (Their next stop is Skegness:  http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=1536)

... also the planning meeting to held by Nocton Dairy Farms Ltd at Nocton Village Hall, LN4 2BH was canceled ... co-incidence?. This is in relation to a proposed dairy farm which would be the largest in the UK and would imprison 8,100 cows in sheds over 22 acres. what did we achieve?

16.03.2010 12:57

Two shops that've been targeted for months stopped selling foie gras after a shorty demo. We put huge pressure on the 'Great British Circus', forcing them to pre-emptively hire 2 bouncers for their whole duration in Nottingham, with the local residents vowing to never let them use their land again. After noisy demos on Saturday and an impromptu demo on Monday, we're fairly sure the Cashe will stop selling real fur soon. The local hunt were effectively sabbed, forcing them to pack up early, with no kills.

As for the BNP... Around 30 of us went to the demo, making it quite clear to the pub landlord and the BNP that they're not welcome.
