Notts police probe for information about the swoop

anon | 15.10.2009 17:44 | Climate Chaos | Repression | Sheffield

This afternoon notts police contacted an individual asking for a meeting to "have a chat".

They spent the day trawling the internet and visiting employers (#!%) trying to get hold of his mobile number and then called asking to meet up in person and have a chat at his house. Said individual plus one went somewhere public to meet them. Here's what they had to say....

questions

15.10.2009 18:30

were they uniforms? if so did you get their numbers? if not did they show warrant cards and did you get names ranks and numbers?

Well done but would be better to have video/pictures of these goons to put on internet, then they will be less likely to try the same in the future. Phone them back and arrange a meeting with a video camera/ and/or media present.

hear me now

desperation? attempt at psychological unsettling? incompetence? what is going on here... "we've got better things to do" was raised as a point by them regarding the swoop at one bit... better things to do than chasing a person who blatantly isn't going to tell you anything too, surely?...

erm, questioner

to the first commenter: Obviously the pigs will have seen this post - and obviously the person this online would not (and definitely should NOT!) contact the pigs again...

answer

"We do like shocking people, it's part of our job...."!

16.10.2009 10:15

But seriously, "It's a shock to other people" one of them also said.

It can put people under pressure when the police phone or turn up at people's employers and start contacting individuals directly.

Given they did this for the chap who recorded them, they didn't really have anything to say to him other than we're trying to contact 'other' people to tell them it's not all black and white and a peaceful protest would look better... they didn't really ask him anything about anything either.

Sounds more like just a tactic to put people under pressure, to try and put people off from being involved in protesting.

yeh be nice tohave better things to do than have to stop the system&co2 destroyi

ng the planet. Obviously are fulfilling their obligations so, its our duty as citizens. How much are government wasting on police hassling citizens over this for Eons££profit?
Build a gas station& more wind generators, at least thatcher had balls to do what she wanted, wind generators etc should be allover the place. Sod the nimbies & bernard ingham brigade they look great!
I know there are some police who agree& try to work between the lines, often seems not many of them get to the top, is it suprising most activists dont like police? many of you hit us to keep the peace, for democracy, who voted in Eon &most bankers???

Numbers?

What's happening with the phone numbers?

Numbers?

Great work...

19.10.2009 11:06

Great work for highlighting this. Clearly this happens more often than we think but I guess other people are worried about speaking up, we need to see more reports like this.. of course it is up to people if they decide to speak with police or not, if they do it is best to be damn careful about it, speak it through with fellow activists first, and not give them any information.

My analysis is this is about stirring up fear a bit, however they are clearly desperate if they are resorting to tactics like this. Contacting someone at their place of work is clearly to cause problems for people, it would have been straight forward for them to contact people at their home if they wished.
